DGA reinforces national security with a new digital system for moving companies and shipping

With over 130 registered companies, the moving and shipping sector is one of the most used ways to send cargo to the country

Santo Domingo. – The General Customs Directorate (DGA) announced that, starting October 27, it will fully implement a digital system for the registration and processing of information on cargo entering the country through moving companies or shipping, with the aim of improving the traceability of these shipments. The project began in 2024 with a pilot plan that included more than 10 companies in the sector, allowing to evaluate the effectiveness of the system before its mass launch. The DGA, through the VUCE platform, developed a digital module in which companies must upload detailed information for each shipment, including the identity of the cargo owners, prior to inspection at the port. This mechanism allows Customs and the Public Ministry to optimize investigations into findings of illicit activities and violations of Customs Law 168-21, immediately identifying the person responsible for each shipment and facilitating the prosecution and structuring of files. In addition, it guarantees greater security for the recipient families of the shipments.

"With this step, we continue to advance in our war against illicit trade. Our commitment is clear: to modernize Customs to protect citizens and facilitate safer and more transparent trade," said the Director General of Customs, Yayo Sanz Lovatón.

This initiative is part of the technological transformation and transparency process promoted by the management of Sanz Lovatón, with the aim of guaranteeing legitimate, competitive and safe trade, as well as strengthening the detection of arms, drugs and currency smuggling. Before the implementation of this system, information was managed manually, which generated errors, duplications, and incomplete data, hindering the tracking and investigation efforts of those responsible.
