Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, positively valued the decision of the Central Bank and the Monetary Board to relax access to foreign currency financing for projects in the energy sector, calling it a key measure to boost investment in one of the strategic areas of the country. The provision, contained in the Seventh Resolution of the Monetary Board of June 13, expands the scope of the so-called "Strategic Sectors", allowing energy projects, especially those focused on renewable sources, to access credits in foreign currency, even if their promoters do not generate income in foreign currency.

The minister highlighted the leadership of the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, and the receptiveness of the Monetary Board to address the needs of the energy sector, one of the main recipients of investment in recent years.

“Esta medida llega en un momento crucial y permite acelerar la transición hacia energías limpias, reducir la dependencia del petróleo y aumentar la competitividad nacional”,

afirmó Santos.
In addition, he highlighted that the easing will promote better financing conditions, which will allow banking institutions to offer more competitive credit lines for the import of supplies and equipment destined for electricity generation, including technologies such as solar, wind, biomass and natural gas. Santos explained that the modification corrects limitations imposed by a previous resolution (from March 2025), which restricted access to foreign currency financing for actors who do not generate income in foreign currency.

"This step strengthens investor confidence, supports the modernization of the electrical system, and directly contributes to job creation and sustainable economic growth," the official pointed out.

Finally, the minister reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the development of a cleaner, more efficient energy system, aligned with the country's sustainable development goals.
