Madrid.- Voice commerce (purchases through smart speakers or voice assistants like Alexa or Siri) will grow strongly this year, even doubling its billing and exceeding 81.8 billion dollars (71.5 billion euros) in 2025.

The convenience of not having to type on a keyboard to search, compare, and ultimately buy products or services makes this modality increasingly frequent, because it is agile and, in addition, it is inclusive, as it simplifies the process for people with certain disabilities.

This is explained by a recent report from the Capital One Shopping platform, of the Capital One financial Group, which states that more than a billion voice searches are performed each month worldwide, although obviously not all of them end in purchases.

Taking the US market as an example, the most advanced in voice shopping, with 37% of the total, experts from the technology portal Coolest Gadgets estimate that half of the consumers in that country (more than 128 million people) have used voice at some point in the purchasing process.

Quality and Speed of Internet Connection

According to these data, the high quality and speed of the internet connection in that country favor everything related to the early adoption of new technologies, and in this case, help assistants like Alexa to process voice commands more accurately, which improves the user experience and allows for smoother transactions. According to a report from Alibaba.com Reads, precisely natural language processing (NLP) is what most helps Siri and company understand better and better the requests made to them and be more useful. This way, voice commerce is advancing more and more, although cybercriminals are also doing so, and if we are not alert, it is not difficult for them to record our voice, for example, through fake random commercial calls, with which they can later use it to make purchases in our name, among other purposes. To counter that risk, one of the options that exist is to create a voiceprint, which, broadly speaking, would require recording a sample of the user's voice - for example, in our own voice assistant - and passing it through a biometric system to analyze the unique characteristics of that sound, such as pitch, timbre, and rhythm, and to be able to generate a mathematical model capable of identifying us. That template or fingerprint is securely stored for future verification and when needed, the system compares the user's voice with the stored fingerprint and checks their identity.

Advantages of Voice Commerce

Being able to shop from anywhere and while performing other tasks, enjoying greater ease, practicality and efficiency in the process or receiving personalized recommendations are some of the advantages of this type of commerce, according to the experts consulted. From the seller's point of view, this modality can boost sales, maintain competitiveness in the market, attract new customers, and retain existing ones. Voice commerce also makes the remote shopping experience more accessible for people with certain disabilities, which contributes to digital inclusion and broadens the reach of the public, they also explain from the Signifyd and Capital One Shopping portals.
