The renowned singer and senator Héctor Acosta, known in the artistic world as “El Torito”, received an important recognition from the Texas Congress, for his transcendence, legacy and significant contributions to merengue and bachata throughout his admirable career.
“On behalf of the constituents of the Texas Congressional District, I am proud to recognize Héctor Acosta "El Torito" for his musical excellence and legacy in Latin music,” the recognition states.

This recognition awarded to “El Torito”, also highlights his contributions to Latin music, especially within the bachata and merengue genres, expressing that throughout his career the performer of “Amorcito enfermito”, has brought joy, unity and cultural pride not only to Dominicans, but also to audiences around the world who enjoy his extensive musical discography.
“Through your unwavering passion, dedication, and enduring legacy, you continue to inspire and connect generations of artists and fans. Your music transcends borders, celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic, and embodies the spirit of excellence and resilience,” the recognition stated.
The award given to the artist highlights his notable achievements and inspiring career, expressing that these deserve the respect, admiration, and praise of the United States Congress, therefore he is considered for such distinction, as Acosta, through his work and resume, has served as a reference for the Latin community scattered around the world.
Acosta, with emotional words, thanked the distinction, dedicating it to his country, especially to his province and to all Dominicans who see in him a reference.
“I dedicate it to my country, especially to my province Monseñor Nouel, so they can see that it is possible, glory to God, I feel very privileged,” expressed the outstanding singer.
But this is not the first recognition of such a level that "El Torito" receives, during his career inside and outside the Dominican Republic. In the United States, Héctor Acosta has been distinguished by the Mayor's Office of New York, which gave him in 2007 a proclamation for his dedication and career.
Also in 2024, he was inducted into the Merengue Gallery of Dominican Folklore during the celebration of National Merengue Day, as one of the most outstanding and influential performers of the genre, both in the country and internationally.
