Ottawa. – King Charles III and Queen Camilla have begun a two-day official visit to Canada, scheduled in response to recent threats from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possible annexation of the country to the United States.
On Tuesday, King Charles III will deliver the Speech from the Throne in the Parliament of Canada, a ceremonial act that officially opens the new parliamentary session and outlines the government's objectives for the legislature. This will be only the third time in history that a British monarch reads this speech in Canada, having been preceded by Queen Elizabeth II in 1957 and 1977.

The visit takes place in a context of growing tension between Canada and the United States. Recently, Trump has suggested that some Canadians want Canada to become the 51st state of the United States, which has generated concern in the neighboring country. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reaffirmed Canada's independence and sovereignty, declaring that "nothing seems more important at this moment for Canadians than to defend our sovereignty and our independence as a nation".
The visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla symbolizes support for Canada in its position against external threats and underscores the Commonwealth of Nations' commitment to the autonomy of its members.
