Lima.- Conservative parliamentarian Juan Carlos Lizarzaburu reported three left-wing legislators to the Ethics Commission of the Congress of Peru for protesting last Monday during the message offered to the plenary by the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, informed local media this Saturday

Lizarzaburu, who is part of the right-wing bloc of the Alliance for Progress (APP), requested that "the maximum sanction" be applied to opponents Ruth Luque, Wilson Quispe and Jaime Quito, for allegedly having committed a "serious ethical breach".

In a letter sent to the president of the Ethics Commission, Alex Paredes, Lizarzaburu assured that the accused launched "offensive and denigrating expressions towards the president", thereby affecting "the presidential institution, as well as the majesty of the Congress of the Republic". Boluarte read last Monday the first part of her latest report as ruler before Congress, amid incidents and interruptions from left-wing parliamentarians, who rejected the statements she made about the beginning of her administration, after the removal of Pedro Castillo as president for an alleged coup attempt. After ensuring that the first stage of his government "was marked by political turmoil, which caused significant economic losses for the country", some parliamentarians loudly reminded him of the dozens of fatalities left by the repression of the protests that broke out after the dismissal and detention of Castillo, on December 7, 2022.

The Congressmen's Protest

Luque was the first to interrupt the ruler, while showing a sign and a photograph of a victim of the protests, while Quito also displayed a sign that said 'Dina, the people repudiate you', while Quispe stood in the center of the hemicycle with a t-shirt that read "the people do not surrender". In addition, other voices were heard shouting "assassin, assassin" and legislator Roberto Sánchez, who was a minister under Castillo, displayed a sign demanding the release of the former president before leaving the premises. Due to the great uproar that was generated, with shouts from different sectors and applause for Boluarte from right-wing parliamentarians and their ministers, the President of Congress, José Jerí, warned that the protesters could be expelled from the room, which restored calm to the session. On the eve, Fujimorist legislator Patricia Juárez also asked the plenary of Congress that the Ethics Commission act "ex officio" and suspend five congressmen, whom she accused of having interrupted Boluarte's message. Juárez considered that parliamentarians Roberto Sánchez and Alex Flores should be sanctioned -in addition to Quito, Luque and Quispe-. In response, Jaime Quito, who is a member of the Socialist Bench, declared to the radio station Radio Exitosa that he has not committed "any ethical fault" and that he does not regret having protested before Boluarte, something that, according to him, he would do again.
