U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Friday that he will impose a general global tariff of 10%, as part of the set of trade powers, known as section 122.

"Effective immediately, all national security tariffs under section 232 and existing tariffs under section 301. They are in effect", he added.

This Friday, the US Supreme Court declared illegal the grounds on which the Trump Administration imposed global tariffs and annulled their application. The ruling invalidates both the levies intended to combat drug trafficking and those known as 'reciprocal tariffs', considering that they exceeded the legal powers granted by Congress.
The Supreme Court Chief Justice, John Roberts, emphasized that the power to impose tariffs is "very clearly a branch of the taxing power." He recalled that the United States Constitution grants Congress, and only this body, "access to the people's pockets" through the collection of taxes. Therefore, any delegation of that power to the Executive must be explicit and clear.
