The Executive has insisted that there are no technical or economic grounds to explain these price levels, especially when there are
subsidies designed to contain the cost of fuel.
Diesel Price in Mexico Shows Variations and Exceeds 28 Pesos
During her morning conference, the president pointed out that the market's behavior reflects inconsistencies.
According to official data, the national average price of diesel is at
28.50 pesos per liter.
The head of the Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office,
Iván Escalante, reported that more than half of the stations sell fuel below
28.28 pesos, while about a third offer it above
28.51 pesos.
This dispersion shows significant price differences between stations.
IEPS Subsidies Are Not Reflected in All Consumers
The federal government has emphasized that diesel has support through the Special Tax on Production and Services (
IEPS), which aims to reduce the impact of fuel on the economy.
However, it has been detected that some dealerships absorb these benefits without passing them on to the final consumer.
This implies that the
public resources allocated to stabilize prices are not fully fulfilling their function, which generates concern in the federal administration.
Government prepares audits and possible sanctions for gas stations
To correct these irregularities, the Executive announced a stricter oversight strategy for the gasoline sector. Among the planned actions are:
Tax audits in coordination with financial authoritiesConstant monitoring of prices at service stationsReview of profit margins in the distribution chainPossible
administrative sanctions for those who maintain high prices without justification
These measures seek to ensure more equitable market conditions and protect
consumers against potential abuses.
The drop in oil is not reflected in fuels
Another of the elements pointed out by the government is the behavior of the international market.
The
Mexican mix of oil has registered a decrease, going from around
100 to 88 dollars per barrel.
In theory, this reduction should lower the price of derived fuels.
However, this has not happened in the case of diesel, which reinforces the official position on the existence of unjustified increases.
In this context, the
Ministry of Finance and Public Credit is analyzing additional mechanisms to incentivize a price decrease, with the goal of placing it below 28 pesos per liter.
Economic Impact and Pressure from Consumption
The rise in diesel has direct effects on the
transport of goods and, consequently, on the cost of various products.
This can affect
inflation and the purchasing power of the population.

energy prices and ensure that subsidies effectively benefit end users.
