New York – Starting this Friday and until September 7, New Yorkers will be able to cool off in more than 60 outdoor public pools, which reopen their doors in the five boroughs as part of the city's strategy to face the intense heat wave.
The pools will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a mandatory cleaning break from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Authorities recommend that users consult the rules of use and dress code in advance, and be patient with possible delays due to high demand.

In addition to these summer options, the city's indoor pools are available year-round. Their use is free for people under 25 years old. Adults between 25 and 61 years old must pay an annual membership of $150, while those over 62 years old, veterans, and people with disabilities can access them for only $25 per year. The city also offers free swimming lessons for babies (18 months to 5 years old), children (6 to 17 years old), and seniors aged 62 and over.Recommendations to avoid risks from extreme heat
The Department of Health and the FDNY remind the public that high temperatures can be dangerous, especially for children, the elderly, and people with medical conditions. They insist on never leaving children or pets in closed vehicles, as internal temperatures can rise up to 40°F (4.5°C) in a matter of minutes, even if the outside weather seems moderate. To protect yourself from the heat, it is recommended:
- Drink plenty of water and avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
- Keep curtains and windows closed during the day if you don't have air conditioning.
- Wear light-colored, light-colored clothing made of natural materials.
- Avoid intense outdoor physical activities, especially between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
- Avoid extremely cold showers, as they can alter the body's thermal regulation.
