The President of Colombia visits Haiti to discuss security and institutional strengthening

Port-au-Prince.- The Haitian government stated that the visit to the country initiated this Friday by the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will focus on cooperation in security matters, the training of armed and police forces, as well as the consolidation of institutional partnerships.

The Haitian Prime Minister's office said on its X account that a high-level dialogue program is planned, including meetings with its head, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé; the Colombian Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez; the high command of the Armed Forces and the National Police, as well as an official meeting with members of the Presidential Transition Council (CPT). «The Haitian government reaffirms, on this occasion, its commitment to deepen the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between both nations, in a spirit of solidarity and mutually beneficial collaboration,» the information highlighted.

Petro strengthens bilateral relations

Petro includes in his trip to Haiti a visit to the Colombian consulate in Port-au-Prince and conversations with the diplomatic corps. Fils-Aimé's office highlighted that this, Petro's second visit to the country this year, demonstrates the importance given to strengthening relations between both countries. The Colombian Presidency said on its X account that Petro met with the president of the CPT, Fritz-Alphonse Jean, a meeting in which they discussed the main advances in bilateral projects such as the fight against drug trafficking, trade, education, and security.
