Monza, Italy. Lando Norris brought McLaren back into the spotlight in the second free practice of the Italian Grand Prix by setting the best time of the day with a time of 1m19s878. The Briton beat Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) by just 0s083, while Carlos Sainz, driving the Williams, surprised again by placing third, just 0s096 off the lead.

Behind the leading trio was Oscar Piastri with the other McLaren, followed by Lewis Hamilton, who had led FP1 with Ferrari. Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Alex Albon (Williams), Nico Hülkenberg (Sauber), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) and George Russell (Mercedes) completed the top-10 of a very tight session. Fernando Alonso was further relegated, failing to get past 15th place with Aston Martin, while young Kimi Antonelli suffered a spin with his Mercedes that caused the only red flag of the afternoon and left him in 19th place. The Argentinian Franco Colapinto, who returned to the Alpine cockpit after giving up his seat in FP1, finished 20th after dealing with power problems in his single-seater. The session was marked by the evolution of the track, more rubbered after the F2 and F3 tests, which allowed for improved times compared to Hamilton's 1m20s117 in the first practice. In the final stages, most teams focused their work on long runs with a full tank, where Norris and Leclerc showed a solid pace around 1m23. With the classification scheduled for this Saturday, McLaren and Ferrari start as the favorites, while Sainz's surprising performance with Williams promises to add excitement to an Italian Grand Prix that looks vibrant.
