Lake signs historic hit 500, but Eagles stop Escogido 4-1

SANTO DOMINGO.- Despite Junior Lake reaching a historic milestone in his career this Sunday by connecting his number 500 hit in LIDOM regular season, the Leones del Escogido fell 4-1 to the Águilas Cibaeñas at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.

The veteran player became only the 21st in league history to achieve this mark, adding a new chapter to his solid career in Dominican baseball. In addition to the important achievement, Lake continues to approach other personal goals:
  • He needs 3 annotated to reach 300 (it would be the 13th to achieve it).
  • With one more home run, he would enter the group of 16 players with 40.
  • With 6 additional stolen bases, he would reach 130 steals, becoming the fifth with that figure.

The Match

The Eagles took control of the game from the fourth inning against Grant Gavin, scoring two runs thanks to a sacrifice fly by José Rodríguez and a single by Anthony Seigler that brought Ezequiel Durán to the plate. In the fifth, the visitors added another run with an unstoppable hit by Leody Taveras, who drove in Julio E. Rodríguez. Later, in the seventh inning, Rodríguez hit again with a double that then became the fourth run for the Cibaeños. The triumph went to Abdiel Mendoza (4-1), who pitched five scoreless innings, while Gavin (3-2) took the loss. Jeurys Familia earned his fourth save.
