Toronto, Canada. – The initial scare over Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s departure from Monday's game turned into relief for the Toronto Blue Jays. An MRI revealed that the Dominican first baseman only has inflammation in his left hamstring, so his condition will be evaluated "day by day," reported manager John Schneider.

Guerrero left the game in the fifth inning of the 5-2 loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh, after pushing himself to the limit in the bottom of the third inning. In that play, the Dominican made a characteristic stretch to complete a great catch of a shot by Bo Bichette, which closed the inning. Although he got up immediately, the pain forced him to leave the game shortly after. "I wanted to test it a bit and be sure that it wasn't going to aggravate it," Schneider explained. "I trust him and that he knows himself very well. We can't afford to lose him for a prolonged period, so it was partly out of precaution." The news that there is no major damage is key for Toronto, which has consistently relied on the durability of Guerrero Jr., a player who rarely misses the lineup. The 25-year-old slugger is going through one of his best moments of the season. Since the beginning of July, he's batting .333 with an OPS of 1.012 in his last 40 games, including nine home runs and 24 RBIs, numbers that consolidate him as the engine of the Blue Jays' offense. The technical staff will remain cautious in the coming days, while Guerrero continues his recovery. For now, the good news is that the Dominican slugger will not be out for a long period.
