The confrontation occurred immediately after the Dominican team won with a score of 84-83. According to witnesses and videos spread on social media, the incident would have started after an exchange of offensive words between players from both teams.
The Dominican David Jones was one of the protagonists of the brawl and had to be restrained by his teammates and members of the coaching staff. Several players from both teams intervened to calm things down and prevent the situation from escalating.
In another video circulating on digital platforms, the Argentinian coach Pablo Prigioni is seen addressing the Dominican Vargas with derogatory expressions, which would have contributed to intensifying the tension on the court. The FIBA has not yet issued an official statement on possible sanctions, but the organization is expected to review the videos and take the corresponding disciplinary measures to ensure respect and sportsmanship in the tournament. The 2025 AmeriCup continues in Managua, where the Dominican Republic and Argentina still have chances to advance in the competition, although the incident could impact the lineups and future participation of the players involved.
