Santo Domingo.– The Minister of
Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, ERD, swore in the members of the Organizing Committee for the 55th edition of the Sports Games of the Armed Forces and the National Police, in an act held on the front esplanade of the Ministry of Defense.
During the ceremony, the high military command also received the torch with the sports flame, which will mark the beginning of the symbolic journey through the different military institutions that will participate in the traditional sporting event.
The torch was handed to the minister by Brigadier General Raúl Esteban Mora Hernández, ERD, president of the Board of Directors of the Sports Confederation of the Armed Forces and the National Police, who highlighted the importance of the event as a space for fellowship, discipline, and strengthening of the sporting spirit among the armed forces.
The protocol activities were carried out prior to the raising of the national flag, accompanied by the flags of the military institutions, in a solemn atmosphere that highlighted the patriotic and sporting values of the day.
In the act, Minister Fernández Onofre swore in Brigadier General Euler E. Sierra Pérez, FARD, as president of the Organizing Committee, who will be accompanied by a team made up of officers from the Armed Forces and the National Police.
The following were designated as members of the Organizing Committee: corvette captain Ángel Antonio Quezada Rojas; Major Erwin Hernán Disla Alemany, ERD; frigate captain José A. Mercedes Tena, ARD; paratrooper lieutenant colonel Jonathan Almonte Feliz, FARD; and lieutenant colonel Sergio La Hoz Vásquez, PN.
Also, the paratrooper captain Simón Lizardo Roa, FARD, was appointed technical director of the games. The committee is completed by First Lieutenant Doctor Silvano Gonell Alcántara, ERD, as medical director; First Lieutenant María Altagracia García Cáceres, ERD, as head of protocol; and the journalist Julio Valdez, FARD, military assimilated, as press officer.
The 55 Sports Games of the Armed Forces and the National Police will bring together athletes from the different military and police branches, with the aim of promoting integration, camaraderie, and the development of institutional sports.
