BUENOS AIRES (EFE).– Argentine fans who dream of cheering on the Albiceleste from the stands at the 2026 World Cup face a complex economic challenge to travel to the United States, venue for the three matches of the team led by Lionel Scaloni in the group stage.

Although there are currently greater facilities to access foreign currencies, the combination of adjusted real income, high flight costs, tickets and accommodation makes the trip a difficult goal for a large part of the population.

Argentinian World Cup Calendar

Argentina will join the Group J and will play its matches on June 16 against Algeria in Kansas, on June 22 against Austria in Dallas, and on June 27 against Jordan, again in Dallas.

High demand for tickets

According to data from FIFA, Argentina is among the ten countries with the highest demand for tickets for the 2026 World Cup. In Qatar 2022, around 35,000 Argentinians traveled to witness at least one match of the champion team, a figure that could increase considering that the United States is a closer and more common destination. A sign of that interest was evident during the 2025 Club World Cup, held in several US cities, where the fans of Boca Juniors and River Plate filled the stadiums.

Increase in travel searches

According to the company Despegar, searches from Argentina for flights to the United States for June 2026 grew 50% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the agency Almundo reported an increase of 3,000% in inquiries about trips to Dallas, one of the main destinations of the selection.

Travel Costs

Currently, the most economical round-trip flight from Argentina to Dallas is around $1,200, considering stopovers and internal connections. Some agencies offer tour packages from $3,150, which include tickets for a game, hotel, transfers, and travel assistance, although without airfare.

For those seeking to witness all three group stage matches, there are more comprehensive packages, lasting 13 days, which cost for two people exceeds 22,700 dollars, a figure beyond the reach of the average Argentinian salary. Regarding accommodation, booking platforms allow you to find budget hotels away from the center for about 75 dollars per night, an alternative frequently used by Argentinian fans to adjust budgets.

The big obstacle: the entries

Beyond transportation and lodging, the biggest challenge remains the acquisition of tickets. Added to the official FIFA processes are the high prices: on resale sites, a ticket for the match between Argentina and Austria is around 700 dollars in the most economical category.

Who can travel?

In January 2026, the monthly minimum wage in Argentina reached 341,000 pesos (about 235 dollars), while the average income is around 683 dollars, figures that make it difficult for most people to afford a World Cup trip. However, the unequal distribution of income allows a small sector —but sufficient to fill the stadiums— to bear the expense. Economic analyst Damián Di Pace told EFE that traveling to the 2026 World Cup will be “a little more expensive than Qatar 2022”, due to the higher cost of the dollar, although he stressed that the decision to attend is not based solely on economic criteria.

“It's not so much the rational agent that comes into play, but the emotional one. The Argentinian makes sacrifices when it comes to their national team,” he stated.
