3 months of pre-trial detention for "El Gallero" for shooting a young man in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata.– The Permanent Attention Court of the Judicial District of Puerto Plata imposed this Monday three months of preventive detention against Waner Tavárez Teveras, alias “El Gallero”, accused of wounding Jhan Carlos Tejada with a firearm projectile, for an alleged economic debt. 

The event occurred in the early hours of June 14th in circumstances that are still unclear, in a confusing incident recorded on Luis Ginebra Avenue, in Puerto Plata. According to the Public Ministry's file, Tavárez Teveras would have shot Tejada during a confrontation whose cause is under investigation. The coercive measure must be fulfilled in the San Felipe Correction and Rehabilitation Center, while investigations into the case proceed. The court granted the Public Prosecutor's request, considering that there is sufficient evidence to presume the criminal responsibility of the accused and the risk of flight. Authorities continue investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
