Santo Domingo.- Miguelina Cruz, a 46-year-old woman weighing 307 pounds, is requesting financial support to undergo bariatric surgery recommended by her doctors, after being diagnosed with diabetes more than a month ago.
The obesity she suffers from has caused various health complications, including a vascular ulcer and circulation problems, which keep her under constant medical treatment. In addition, she has faced the amputation of one of her toes, derived from these conditions, which has significantly deteriorated her quality of life.
The specialists who evaluate it assure that bariatric surgery is the best alternative to stabilize their health and prevent the progression of chronic diseases associated with overweight. However, the costs of the procedure exceed the economic possibilities of their family.
