Antonio Espaillat's lawyer: "He is calm, he should be released because there was no intention for that to happen."

Santo Domingo.- Upon leaving a meeting with his client in the prison of the Palace of Justice this Friday morning, lawyer Miguel Valerio assured that businessman Antonio Espaillat is in good spirits and awaiting a coercive measure hearing. “Mr. Espaillat's spirits are good, he is calm, he is awaiting the coercive measure, nothing more can be said”, the jurist expressed to the press. Valerio also referred to the state of Maribel Espaillat, sister of the businessman and administrator of the Jet Set nightclub, who was also arrested as part of the investigation into the collapse of the establishment's roof, a tragedy that left 236 dead and more than 180 injured.

“Regarding Maribel, Mr. Antonio's sister, she is in the hands of the prosecution, calm,” indicated the lawyer.

Regarding the measure he considers most appropriate for his client, Valerio maintained that Espaillat should remain at liberty. “From my point of view, he was free, he should remain free, because this, I repeat, there was no intention for that to happen,” he declared. The lawyer criticized the approach that, according to him, has been given to the case.

“That's the good thing for people to get into their heads, because they are treating it like a case of organized crime and there was no intention”.

The authorities continue with the judicial process while it is expected that in the coming hours the formal request for a coercive measure by the Public Ministry will be announced.
