The European Commission (EC) condemned "all forms of violence" on Thursday following the death of American activist Charlie Kirk, a great ally of Donald Trump -, who was shot dead on Wednesday.
"The European Union condemns all forms of violence, and we offer our sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic incident," said EC chief spokesperson Paula Pinho during the institution's daily press briefing.
The spokesperson, who said she was speaking on behalf of the President of the EC, Ursula Von der Leyen, also expressed her confidence that those responsible for the assassination "will be brought to justice."
The attack occurred in an auditorium at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was participating in an event with students.
According to authorities, a gunman opened fire, possibly from a rooftop, and a bullet hit the activist in the neck, which caused his death shortly afterwards in a nearby hospital.
Kirk, 31, and founder of Turning Point USA, an influential conservative organization focused on university activism, was one of the most recognized voices of the youth conservative movement in the United States, close to the U.S. president and a personal friend of the vice president, J. D. Vance.
