Santo Domingo. – The deputy of the Fuerza del Pueblo for La Romana, Carlos De Pérez, described as "worrying for national security" the blackout of almost nine hours recorded last Sunday at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), which caused cancellations and delays of flights and affected thousands of passengers.
The legislator considered that the failure reflects the lack of planning that characterizes the current government management of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
"Airports are national security targets, and the fact that they didn't have an emergency plan and that we had to wait nine hours tells me that the airport has functioned as this government functions: improvisation in every sense of the word," he said.
According to reports, around five thousand passengers were affected by the power outage at the airport terminal, attributed to a failure in a circuit breaker, electrical equipment responsible for distributing the load throughout the building.
For his part, Luis José López, director of Corporate Communication of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), informed that investigations are ongoing to determine the precise causes of the breakdown.
