DGA highlights increase in collections and currency seizures in Nelson Arroyo's first 100 days

The General Customs Directorate (DGA), under the leadership of Nelson Arroyo, highlighted that in the first 100 days of management positive results have been achieved, especially in collections and in the detection and seizure of illicit currencies, which reflects its commitment to efficiency and the economic development of the country.

In the first quarter of this year, the highest collection in the history of the DGA for that period was achieved. Likewise, March 2026 has the highest collection compared to previous years, granting a historical period to the management of its general director.

Regarding currencies, official Customs statistics show positive results reflecting a notable recovery and growth in their entry, setting a positive precedent for the national economy. US$725,895, EU€21,450.00, as well as RD$35,000.00 were seized at the border, amounts equivalent to about RD$46,425,774.54, at the current exchange rate.

The head of the collecting entity stated that the central challenge he faces at the DGA is to guarantee agile, predictable customs management aligned with the dynamics of global trade, capable of facilitating the efficient transit of goods, without compromising control, collection, or the security of the logistics chain.

"In a complementary manner, we work on effective articulation with the other actors in the logistics system: ports, airports, free zones and other State entities, in the development of human capital and in the adoption of international traceability and cooperation standards," said Arroyo.

He added that a modern Customs transcends its collecting role and consolidates as a strategic partner for productive development, nearshoring, and attracting investment.

During the first quarter, training programs aimed at strengthening institutional capacities were developed, where more than 1,800 employees have been trained.

Likewise, institution collaborators represented the Dominican Republic at the Annual Meeting of the Capacity Building Committee of the World Customs Organization (WCO).

"We have conceived a continuous improvement initiative, aimed at progressively and sustainably strengthening customs management at land border points, while promoting the development of technical and operational capacities of the institution's personnel. As part of it, a pilot program of operational internships will be implemented, in which customs officers who currently perform their duties in the different administrations of the country will participate, for a period of one month, in support tasks at the land border terminals of Dajabón, Elías Piña, Jimaní and Pedernales," the official assured.

Arroyo promised to continue the Despacho en 24 Horas (D24H) and Exporta Más (+) programs, which are part of a structured plan and an integral State vision, aimed at modernizing and streamlining customs processes, both in imports and exports.

Since his arrival, he has promoted initiatives that promote continuous training, professional development, and the integration of collaborators, recognizing that human resources are the fundamental pillar for success and efficiency in customs service.

This approach has allowed for the improvement of internal processes and the enhancement of the quality of care, demonstrating that the effort put into human capital translates into positive results for the institution and the country.

"I believe in the importance of having a work environment where there is closeness, innovation is fostered, teamwork and a sense of belonging, that's what I believe in, in an increasingly motivated workforce and, together, facing the challenges of the customs sector," he assured.
