The Dominican-American shooter, nicknamed the “Dominican Curry” for his lethal accuracy from the perimeter, was excited after being selected:

“I am happy, especially for the effort my parents made with me”, declared Brea.

With a 43.5% three-point shooting effectiveness during the past NCAA season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Brea established himself as one of the most accurate shooters in college basketball. He averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, and made 93 three-pointers in 33 games, figures that positioned him as an ideal prospect for modern basketball.

Born on November 6, 2002 in Washington Heights, New York, Brea is the son of Dominican parents and maintains a special bond with his roots. He represented the Dominican Republic in the 2019 Centrobasket U-17 and is the godson of Felipe López, former NBA player and one of the great legends of Dominican basketball.

Prior to his time at Kentucky, the young guard shined for four seasons with the University of Dayton, where he was named Atlantic 10 Conference Sixth Man of the Year in 2024. His growth has been constant and his playing style has been compared by experts to that of the legendary Larry Bird, highlighting his court intelligence, off-ball movement, and offensive efficiency.

Solid Path to Professionalism

At 22 years old, Brea is 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m) tall and is shaping up to be an ideal piece for the Suns, a team looking to reinforce its perimeter with youth, versatility, and reliable shooting. His adaptation to the professional system seems imminent thanks to his tactical maturity and work ethic, qualities that differentiate him among the prospects of his class. Koby Brea thus joins the list of Dominicans who have made the leap to the NBA, igniting the hope of a new generation of Quisqueyan talents in elite basketball.
