The official report reveals that the capture was the result of coordinated work between the Transnational Criminal Investigation Unit (UTIC) and the Tactical Special Operations Group (GOET), who had been monitoring suspicious movements previously detected in the capital. Based on this information, the agents extended the tracking efforts towards the south zone, where they finally located the vehicle involved.
This type of events, according to police authorities in Honduras, responds to a phenomenon that they have been observing in recent years, related to the transit of extracontinental migrants through irregular routes in Central America. In various previous operations, the DPI and the Public Ministry have reported the dismantling of structures dedicated to this type of crime, especially in border areas in the south, where there is a greater flow of migrants. During the intervention in Pavana, the authorities seized evidence that will be incorporated into the investigative process, including 80 US dollars, 1,000 lempiras, and 100 yuan in cash, in addition to the minibus used to transport the foreigners. This evidence will be analyzed to determine if the detainee acted individually or if there is a broader criminal structure behind the act. As part of the operations, the seizure of different foreign currencies has been permitted, which is frequent in cases linked to human trafficking, since transactions are usually carried out in cash and in different currencies due to the transnational nature of these operations. The detainee was transferred and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office on duty of the Public Ministry in the southern zone of Honduras, where he will face charges for the crime of illicit trafficking of persons, while investigations are deepened to establish possible links with other people or networks involved.
