Iran will study the US response to its 14-point proposal to end the war

Tehran.- Iran confirmed this Sunday that it has already received through Pakistan the response from United States regarding the Iranian 14-point proposal aimed at ending the war and assured that it is analyzing the content before issuing an official response. “The United States' position on Tehran's proposal has reached Iran through Pakistan”, stated Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagaei, to state television. The diplomat explained that the US position "is being evaluated" and that, once the analysis is concluded, Iran will present its response.

Bagaei insisted that the Iranian proposal "is exclusively focused on ending the war" and stressed that "issues related to the nuclear program have absolutely no place" in that plan. "Iran's plan is exclusively conditioned on the end of the war. In this phase we are not holding nuclear negotiations," he added. The Iranian diplomacy spokesperson also rejected that Iran has given the U.S. a 30-day deadline to end the war. "The 30-day deadline is to agree on how the peace agreement should be implemented," he explained.

14-Point Plan Focused on the Definitive End of the War

According to information released last night by the Tasnim agency, Iran presented, through Pakistan, a 14-point plan focused on the definitive end of the war. Among the points included in the Iranian proposal are guarantees of non-military aggression, the withdrawal of US forces from the vicinity of Iran, the lifting of the naval blockade, the release of frozen Iranian assets, the payment of compensation, the lifting of sanctions and the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, as well as a new mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. President, Donald Trump, said last night that he would review "soon" the plan sent by Iran, although he anticipated that "I cannot imagine it being acceptable". Hours later, media outlets linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed that Trump faces a limited choice between an "impossible" military operation or reaching a "bad deal" with Iran. Iran and the United States held a high-level meeting in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, but they failed to reach an agreement to end the conflict and, since then, have not reached a consensus to resume talks. However, both sides have continued to exchange messages.
