Samaná.- The community of Las Galeras, recognized as one of the most important tourist destinations in the province of Samaná, is facing growing concern over the increase in crime affecting residents, investors, and visitors.
Despite an official meeting with General Matas, regional head of the National Police based in Nagua, where it was promised to reinforce security with more agents and new vehicular and motorized units, the communities denounce that so far those promises have not been fulfilled.
Robberies in residences, businesses, and agricultural fields have become part of the daily landscape, generating a climate of insecurity that threatens the social and tourist stability of the area.
In response to this situation, Mayor Ana Reyes has initiated efforts with community leaders to install surveillance cameras in strategic locations, as a preventive measure in the face of inaction by national authorities.
