Santiago.- A heavy hailstorm accompanied by rain and strong winds surprised residents of the municipality of Licey al Medio and other locations in Santiago on Monday afternoon, leaving in its wake damage to homes, fallen trees and damage to the power lines.
The climatic phenomenon, which also impacted the municipal district of Las Palomas, was strongly felt in San José de las Matas, where detached roofs were reported, as well as in Puñal, Villa González, Navarrete and other communities in the province.
In Licey al Medio, strong winds affected the Municipal Hospital, causing disruptions in health services, while rescue teams worked on removing fallen trees that were obstructing several public roads.

Francisco Arias, director of Civil Defense in Santiago, reported that the authorities are restoring the downed electrical wiring and coordinating efforts to mitigate the damage caused by the phenomenon. The event, described as unusual due to its intensity, was accompanied by heavy rains and hailstorms, confirming the forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), which had warned about rainfall for this Monday in the region.
