Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources closed 2025 with the granting of more than six thousand permits for the development of different projects, including tourism.
Lenin Bueno, Vice Minister of Environment, expressed that this quantitative leap is due to the use of advanced technology in the permitting process.
"That efficiency, implemented by Minister Paíno Henríquez, allowed 6,500 environmental authorizations to be approved last year," he stated.
The official indicated that in compliance with Law 64-00 on the Environment, the approval of these projects represented "some 21 billion dollars in investment amount, for a projected growth of 4.5 percent".
Similarly, it was pointed out that despite the increase in permit requests, the use of robotics has allowed the time for environmental permits to be reduced by half.
"We are receiving 400 project requests every month, when the average was about 80. That means the country is developing," he pointed out.
Regarding the complaint from business owners about obtaining bureaucratic procedures for permits, Lenin Bueno pointed out that in the task of achieving a balance between development and environmental sustainability, the government has been rigorous.
"If we don't take care of the environment and don't propose sustainable projects, at some point we won't even be able to drink water," he coined.
He recalled that in past governments those processes were carried out hastily, which changed with the arrival of Luis Abinader to the government. President Abinader has been emphatic that we are a pro-development government, but in the same way, pro-sustainability. In that sense, that is not negotiable, no matter who it is," he stated.
Around the tourism projects captured at Fitur 2026, Lenin Bueno highlighted the role played by the Environment in the approval of each of those initiatives.
