Monegro, Vicini, and Luisín congratulate Carolina on progress in Paseo 30 de Mayo and Malecón Deportivo

Santo Domingo.– José Monegro, Felipe Vicini, and Luisín Mejía congratulated Carolina Mejía after a tour of the works Paseo 30 de Mayo and Malecón Deportivo, part of which will be the setting for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The President of the Games Organizing Committee, José Monegro, appreciated the enthusiasm with which the mayor embraced her role as host of the sporting event. “The ability to allocate resources to something like this is to know what our city is like facing the sea”, said Monegro, while pointing out the strategic location in front of the monument to the heroes of May 30th. He also added that these facilities will last beyond the Central American Games, being able to host the practice of various sports professionally. Vicini, Vice President of the Organizing Committee, agreed in congratulating Carolina for the extraordinary work. In that sense, he also highlighted that the skating rink or skating track that is being built is approved by the International Skating Federation, which is why it will have all the qualities required to host world competitions.

“I think it's the first time in many, many years, in decades… that the facilities are going to be ready for a Central American Games with three or four months in advance,” he added.

For the president of Centro Caribe Sport, Luisín Mejía Oviedo, the satisfaction is twofold: for leading the organization that awards the games' venue and for seeing the rigor with which Santo Domingo is heading towards being an unforgettable historical reference as a city hosting the Central American and Caribbean Games.

"The Santo Domingo headquarters is going to be established as an unforgettable benchmark for finishing the works, the assembly, with the record time that had never been achieved in 100 years," he pointed out, emphasizing that the Malecón Promenade is scheduled to be delivered in May.

Acknowledging that the preparations are ample in time, as the inauguration of the sporting event is on July 24th, Luisín recalled that this week an evaluation commission was in the country to supervise the preparations and gave the green light to the way in which progress has been made. Carolina welcomed these congratulations and thanked the URBE team and contractors for adhering to the work schedule, which ensures that everything is ready to host this great sporting event in its centenary. The Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will take place from July 24 to August 8, an edition that coincides with the centenary of the first event. It is expected that the participation record will be broken with around 6,200 athletes from 37 countries. In the case of the skating rink located on Paseo 30 de Mayo, the execution currently amounts to 60 percent, with a delivery date for May and whose cost will be around 600 million pesos. Manuel de Jesús, technical director of the Dominican Skating Federation and member of the Pan American Skating Confederation, stated that the work is finishing at an incredible pace. From now on, he announced that the confederation wants to hold continental events on that track.

This week, President Luis Abinader considered the work of the Organizing Committee to be extraordinary, assuring that many aspects are ahead of schedule in relation to the established timeline.
