Omara Corporán assumes as Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Chicago

Chicago. – In an official act marking the beginning of a new stage in Dominican diplomatic representation in the Midwest of the United States, Omara Corporán assumed this morning as Consul General of the Dominican Republic in the city of Chicago, with a management oriented towards institutional strengthening and a closer attention to the Dominican community. During the inauguration ceremony, Corporán thanked the Dominican government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the trust placed in her, reaffirming the commitment that will guide her management. “I assume this responsibility with a firm commitment to service, transparency, and closeness to the Dominican community,” he expressed. The new consul general emphasized that the consulate will be an open, accessible, and close space, aimed at strengthening the bond between the Dominican State and the diaspora, through participatory management and aligned with the demands of a diverse and dynamic Dominican community residing in Chicago and surrounding areas.

Corporán valued the work done by previous administrations, highlighting their contribution to strengthening the Dominican institutional presence in the city, and assured that his administration will continue the good practices, promoting improvements aimed at the efficiency and quality of consular services.

Omara Corporán was appointed Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Chicago by Decree No. 573-25, issued by President Luis Abinader on October 20, 2025, according to information published by national media. His appointment is part of the Dominican State's efforts to strengthen attention to the diaspora, promote efficient and transparent consular management, and strengthen institutional, social, and economic ties with the Dominican community abroad.
