Regulated use of cell phones in schools receives support from the educational community and families

Santo Domingo.- The initiative of the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, to move towards a regulation of the use of mobile devices in educational centers continues to generate a positive response in different sectors of the educational system and in families, strengthening the consensus on the importance of promoting a more responsible, balanced and pedagogical use of technology in the classrooms. The results of studies and consultations promoted by both the Ministry of Education and other entities reflect a broad disposition towards the adoption of measures aimed at strengthening the educational use of devices, without limiting their potential as a learning tool, always with the support and accompaniment of mothers and fathers. The consultations remain open so that teachers, directors, students, mothers and fathers continue to contribute ideas and recommendations to enrich this proposal, presented to the National Education Council, the body responsible for the decisions that govern the pre-university public system.

The opinions gathered show that the students themselves recognize the risks associated with the inappropriate use of cell phones, such as distractions, attention difficulties, cyberbullying, and access to inappropriate content. At the same time, they propose practical solutions such as setting schedules, limiting use during classes, and reinforcing supervision, measures in which families play a fundamental role. These assessments align with those expressed by directors and teachers, who have shown a willingness to lead processes of technological integration, while recognizing the need to establish clear rules that promote a more orderly and learning-focused educational environment. In this context, the regulation of cell phone use is seen as an opportunity to strengthen teaching, organize the educational digital ecosystem, and ensure that technology effectively contributes to the academic development of students, with the participation of mothers and fathers. The Ministry of Education's proposal is part of a broader vision of educational transformation, focused on strategically integrating technology to improve learning, reduce gaps, and strengthen educational quality throughout the country. With this process, the Dominican Republic moves towards an educational model where technology is used in an intentional, responsible, and aligned manner with pedagogical objectives, promoting the participation of the entire educational community.
