Madrid.- Spanish graphic artist José María Cruz Novillo, author of the logos of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), Renfe (the Spanish railway network), Correos or the flag or coat of arms of the Community of Madrid, has died at the age of 89, according to the specialized magazine 'Gráffica'.
The artist, born in the town of Cuenca (central Spain), was the 1997 National Design Award winner, won the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts and was the creator of some of the film posters of Luis García Belanga, Carlos Saura or Víctor Erice. In 2024, his studio 'Cruz más Cruz', which he shared with his son Pepe Cruz, created the poster for the documentary 'La guitarra flamenca de Yeray Cortés', the first film by the Spanish singer C. Tangana. The Spanish Prime Minister and leader of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, lamented his death and highlighted his work to "build an image of a modern country".
