The Ecuadorian Police found this Wednesday three tons of drugs that were buried on a farm located in the coastal municipality of Montecristi, in the province of Manabí, according to the institution.
Colonel Giovanni Naranjo, police chief of Manabí, explained that agents of the Special Anti-Narcotics Mobile Group (Gema) were carrying out several operations on the roads in the area when they detected that some vehicles were circulating in "a suspicious attitude".
With the support of a drone, they identified a nearby farm that they presumed was being used to store drugs, so they conducted a search. At the site, they found two hidden stashes among the vegetation.

"After the inspection, it was determined that there were several packages of drugs at the scene, which would total approximately three tons," said Naranjo. The officer stated that due to the way the packages were packaged and distributed, they were possibly going to be sent abroad this Wednesday, "taking advantage of the fact that the Police are dedicated to patrolling the sectors with the highest influx of people". Ecuador is considered the third country in the world that confiscates the most drugs, after Colombia and the United States, with an average of two hundred tons annually since 2021 and with a historical record of nearly three hundred tons in 2024.
