Trump warns he "will begin to stop" the advance of Venezuelan drug traffickers by land

Miami.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Thursday that the Armed Forces "will begin very soon" to "detain" the "Venezuelan drug traffickers" by land, considering that the military operations at sea have already been a success. "You've probably noticed that people don't want to deliver (drugs) by sea anymore, and we're going to start stopping them by land. Also, by land it's easier, but that's going to start very soon. We warn them to stop sending poison to our country", Trump declared in a Thanksgiving call with military personnel. The leader, who did not specify what the actions on land would consist of, highlighted from Florida the attacks in the Caribbean and the Pacific, where US forces have killed more than 80 people by destroying more than 20 boats allegedly linked to drug trafficking, mostly from Venezuela, since September 1st.

"In recent weeks, you have been working to stop the drug traffickers from Venezuela, of which there are many. Of course, there are not many coming by sea anymore," the president told the Army elements.

The head of state justified the bombings by pointing out that the alleged drug traffickers in Venezuela "are sending their poison to the United States, where they kill thousands of people a year".

"But we are going to take care of the situation. We are already doing a lot. We have almost stopped it. We have already stopped 85% (of the flow) by sea," he indicated.

His statements occur amid the growing tension between Venezuela and the United States, which since November 16 deployed the USS Gerald R. Ford, its largest aircraft carrier, in the Caribbean, and on Monday declared the Cartel de los Soles organization, which it links to the Venezuelan ruler, Nicolás Maduro, as a terrorist organization. Even so, Trump has insisted before that he has not yet decided to bomb infrastructure in Venezuela or attack Maduro, with whom "he could talk to save many lives", as he expressed on Tuesday, a conversation that would be "welcome, according to the Venezuelan Attorney General, Tarek William Saab. U.S. B-52H bomber aircraft conducted demonstrations in the Caribbean on Monday, as revealed this Wednesday by the U.S. Air Force.
