Dylan Cease (2-5) took care of the rest from the mound, throwing seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts and just three hits allowed, ending an 11-start winless streak. The victory reaffirms the Padres' good form and evens the series against their division rivals. The Dodgers, heavily affected by injuries in their pitching staff —with 14 pitchers on the injured list—, sent Matt Sauer (1-1), recently called up from the minor leagues, to the mound. Sauer allowed nine runs and 13 hits in 111 pitches. Puerto Rican utility player Kiké Hernández had to close the game from the mound, pitching two and a third innings with pitches that didn't exceed 57 mph. Puerto Rican catcher Martín Maldonado also shined with the only home run of the game for San Diego, while Fernando Tatis Jr. scored twice with a solid performance at bat.

For the Padres, they highlighted:

  • Manny Machado: 5-3, one run and five RBIs.
  • Luis Arráez: 5-3, four runs and one RBI.
  • Martín Maldonado: 4-2, two runs and one RBI.
  • Fernando Tatis Jr.: 2-1, with two runs.
For the Dodgers:
  • Teoscar Hernández: 3-1.
  • Miguel Rojas: 1-1, with a run scored.
With this victory, San Diego demonstrates that it can take advantage of its opponents' weaknesses and remains in the fight in the competitive National League West Division.
