Ortiz, one of the greatest figures in the recent history of the Boston franchise, revealed that the news caught him off guard, even after having been in the city days before the move.

"I was in Boston last week and didn't hear anything about that. I never dreamed of rumors of change because I always tried to stay out of it. When a team pays you that kind of money and decides to trade you after your first year, it's because they understand they need to keep looking elsewhere," commented the legendary designated hitter.

During the interview with journalist Yancen Pujols. Ortiz was emphatic in pointing out that in Major League Baseball, no player is above the game. Although he praised Devers' offensive talent, he also pointed out the importance of maturity and professional management within the franchise system.

"I've always said he's a good hitter. But many players have passed through baseball and when we leave, the ball keeps going. I've been retired for eight years and the game continues. The Red Sox didn't do everything perfectly, but the players have to give in, because the teams are the ones in charge," he indicated.

Furthermore, Ortiz acknowledged that he himself faced difficult moments with the organization, but he knew how to maintain balance thanks to the support of his advisors and a controlled attitude:

"They also made mistakes with me, but I had advisors and a hidden ego. Devers is a boy who perhaps doesn't have the necessary maturity. Not everything he did was right, but with teams you have to know how to handle yourself".

The surprising change of Rafael Devers, one of the central figures of Boston's sports project after the departure of stars like Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts, has generated reactions at all levels. David Ortiz's perspective provides a view from experience, and recalls that baseball, as a business, does not forgive a lack of vision, nor humility.
