Santo Domingo. - The Materno Dra. Evangelina Rodríguez Hospital (HMDER) awarded diplomas to 21 new gynecologists and neonatologists in its XLIV Graduation of Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology and XL Graduation of Subspecialists in Neonatology and Neonatal Intensive Care. The Teaching Department of the Dra. Evangelina Rodríguez Maternity Hospital reported that 13 of the graduates belong to the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology, while 8 are from the area of neonatology.

Since it began teaching obstetrics and gynecology at the women's hospital in 1979, 366 gynecologists and obstetricians and 156 neonatologists have been trained, according to the head of teaching, Dr. Martín Castillo. The event was led by the Director of Hospitals of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Yokasta Lara, who congratulated the graduates and urged them to carry out their work with ethics, vocation, and human commitment. Furthermore, he reiterated to the graduates the patience that must be had when treating patients, who will often unload their mental problems on the doctor. On his part, the director of the center, Dr. Marcelino Figuereo, highlighted the relevance of these medical specialties and the fundamental role they play in strengthening the Dominican health system. During the ceremony, Dr. Ángel Caputo, former head of the Gynecology Service and co-founder of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency, was honored. He has 61 years in medicine and 54 as a specialist, and has also written about five books for women's well-being. The recognition plaque was presented to Dr. Caputo by Dr. Ruddy Guerrero, who highlighted his contributions to medical training and maternal-neonatal care. Doctor Caputo said multiple phrases that marked his thank you speech, including “I was born to be a doctor” and “I was born to teach and I will die teaching”, which filled all those present with pride and admiration.
