Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) formally notified 25 companies for employing foreign labor in an irregular migratory condition, in a wide-ranging operation that the institution described as a “historical precedent” in the application of Law 285-04 on Migration. The DGM reported that these operations set a historic precedent in the protection of the country's legal migration framework, and indicates that of those companies, six have already paid their fines voluntarily, 5 reconsidered them, two are being processed in the Superior Administrative Court and the others are in the process of being brought before the corresponding instances.

The affected companies are mainly engaged in the distribution of clothing, household goods, appliances and other merchandise. The amount of the fines ranges from 75 thousand pesos and a maximum of 450 thousand pesos. The purpose is to guarantee the country's migratory control, fundamentally to preserve security, order, the protection of citizens' rights, and national sovereignty in all areas and jurisdictions granted by law 285-04. These sanctions seek to strengthen compliance with the current legal framework, support the formal economy, respect equal opportunities, and prevent illicit practices that affect social stability. The institution explains in a press release.
Asimismo, los extranjeros en condición migratoria irregular sorprendidos trabajando en estas empresas fueron trasladados al centro de retención de indocumentados de Haina para su identificación, depuración y posterior deportación a su país de origen.
These operations are part of the work plan that the DGM implements throughout the national territory to ensure compliance with immigration law and promote an orderly and legal labor market.
