War.- The Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares, personally led the supervision of the work suspended 46 days ago, of two companies located on Mella highway, in the municipality of Guerra, in which he verified the corrections to each of the irregularities detected by the inspectors and technicians of the Ministry of Labor.
The companies authorized to restart their work were Power Plastic Group and Sonsoles Aceros, S. R., after having complied with the provisions of the Labor Code and Regulation 522-06, on Safety and Health at Work.
In addition, Olivares Ortega supervised that both companies complied with the payment of workers' contributions to Social Security, payrolls, the 80-20 regulations, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, water coolers, clothing, such as protective helmets, vests and boots, as well as bathrooms, lockers and dining rooms.
The official verified with satisfaction the establishment of a rest area for the workers.
He reiterated to the managers of these companies that the purpose of the Ministry of Labor is not to paralyze work, but to ensure compliance with the Labor Code.
"The normal working hours are eight hours a day and 44 a week; any time after those hours must be paid as overtime. Likewise, workers' rest hours, bonuses, and vacations must be guaranteed," emphasized the minister.
In the final inspection of the resumption of work, Minister Olivares spoke with several workers, asking them about the new working conditions, to which they responded that "they are very good and we are satisfied with that improvement."
Similarly, he addressed new Dominican male and female workers, hired after the supervision of the work, and asked them if in the sectors where they reside there were more people interested in working in those companies, to which they responded that many wish to work with good salaries and conditions like those now offered by the mentioned industries.
Olivares stated that "the theory that Dominicans do not want to work is a myth that is broken with decent salaries, safety and health at work, social security and dignity, as has been proven with the changes produced in these companies.
The Minister of Labor, addressing the employers, welcomed them to the stage of formality, in which both employers and workers will benefit through social security.
It is recalled that the Ministry of Labor, through its inspectors, halted the work of 8 companies for violating Regulation 522-06 on Safety and Health at Work and the Labor Code. Of these, six remain halted in the municipality of Guerra and 13 on Duarte Avenue, whose compliance with these regulations is being monitored to authorize their restart.
