KANSAS CITY — The Kansas City Royals have signed veteran left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel, winner of the American League Cy Young Award in 2015, to a minor league contract, the team announced this Wednesday.

Keuchel, 37 years old, held a training session for the organization last week, where he impressed by reaching 92 miles per hour with his fastball, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The left-hander will begin his comeback at the club's training complex in Arizona, before joining the Triple-A Omaha team. With over a decade of experience in the Major Leagues, Keuchel has an outstanding track record. He was a two-time All-Star, World Series champion with the Astros in 2017, and won the Cy Young in 2015 after posting a 20-8 record with a 2.48 ERA. The lefty has seen action with six different teams in the last four seasons, including Astros, Braves, White Sox, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Twins and, most recently, the Brewers, with whom he last pitched in 2024. In that campaign he had an ERA of 5.40 in 16.2 innings spread over four starts. Throughout his career, Keuchel has a record of 103 wins and 92 losses, with an earned run average of 4.04. This move represents a new opportunity for the veteran, who will try to earn a spot in the Royals' rotation, who are looking for depth and experience in their pitching staff for the second half of the season.
