Nine dead in a fire at a nursing home in Massachusetts

New York.- Nine people died on Sunday night after a fire at a nursing home in Fall River, Massachusetts (USA), authorities reported this Monday. The fire chief, Jeffrey Bacon, told local media today the death toll and indicated that more than 30 people were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals, and one of them was in critical condition.

"Some died in the building and others after being moved," Bacon told the media, according to CNN.

In addition, the fire chief indicated that five firefighters were removed from the scene with "mostly minor" injuries and have already been discharged. The Casa Gabriel residence opened its doors in 1999, according to the Department of Health and Human Services of the state.

About 70 residents were living in the three-story building at the time of the fire, according to the Fire Department. The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Fall River Fire Department, the Fall River Police, the State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal's office, and the State Police assigned to the Bristol District Attorney's office.
