Santo Domingo,.- Former President Leonel Fernández lashed out this Sunday against the management of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), assuring that the country "has regressed to the 19th century" under the current administration.

The statements were made during an event in which leaders of various political organizations in the province of San Cristóbal were sworn in, highlighted a statement from the organization they preside over, the party Fuerza del Pueblo. Fernández severely criticized the conditions in which the country finds itself. "It is inconceivable that in this 21st century, already entering the third decade, when we talk about artificial intelligence, digital revolution, and global integration, here we are talking about the lack of potable water, that water trucks have returned to the neighborhoods to sell water", he pointed out. He added that "we have prolonged blackouts, streets are not paved, and containers are not fixed. I would say that this is a setback to the 19th century, what we have had with this government of the melted engine, which is the government of the PRM." Fernández emphasized that "we will inevitably have to give them a spanking to make them understand what the anger and discontent of the Dominican people is." Fernández questioned what he called an economic crisis and the lack of opportunities, pointing to irregular migration as an example. "About two weeks ago, a boat capsized on Juanillo beach, and on that boat were not only Haitian citizens, but also Dominicans. It caught my attention that Dominicans and Haitians were on the same makeshift boat and going illegally to Puerto Rico," he said. He said that "that indicates that, for some of our citizens, the level of misery they are experiencing in this government of the melted engine and the rusty bodywork is identical to that suffered by Haitians. And for that reason alone, in 2028 they deserve a resounding defeat". "Tell the PRM government from now on to pack their bags for the 28th, because they're going out!" exclaimed Fernández. The opposition leader reiterated that the Fuerza del Pueblo is prepared to govern effectively and bring progress back to the country: "We believe in real solutions, not improvisations. This people deserve development, stability and hope," he concluded.
