More than 58% of deaths recorded in the Dominican Republic in recent years correspond to men, according to JCE data

Santo Domingo. – According to the official records of the death statistics portal of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), a total of 785,601 deaths have been reported in the Dominican Republic from the year 2005 to date, with men being the main victims, with 58.16% of the total deaths.

The breakdown by sex reveals that 456,892 deaths correspond to men, while 328,709 were women, which shows a significant gap in mortality between both genders in the country.

The official statistics from the JCE reveal that, from 2005 to date, the main causes of death are natural causes, with 324,782 cases, and diseases, with 233,555. These are followed by deaths from traffic accidents (32,060), other types of accidents (4,031), homicides (15,230), suicides (5,681), work-related deaths (1,533) and due to aging (1,965). In addition, 166,764 deaths attributed to other causes are counted, according to the data available on the official statistics portal onarec.jce.gob.do. In territorial terms, Santo Domingo tops the list of localities with the most registered deaths, with a total of "157,910" deaths, followed by Santiago de los Caballeros with "76,368" and the National District with "45,275" deaths. The mortality analysis by year shows a peak in 2021, with 53,587 deaths, followed by the year 2022 with 51,356. The year 2025, as of the report's cut-off date, shows a significant decrease with 29,904 reported deaths.
