AGREGATEC implements an innovative model of ecological restoration after mining exploitation

Santiago. — The company Agregados Técnicos AGREGATEC, dedicated to dry mining and committed to responsible environmental management, began the restoration of its first mining polygon in Villa González with the initial planting of 300 trees, out of a total of 2,500 that will be planted progressively in the coming weeks.

This action is part of its institutional program "We sow the future where others see the end", which contemplates the gradual recovery of intervened areas through specialized ecological restoration techniques. The goal of the first year is to restore 64,000 square meters and maintain, from then on, an average above 32,000 m2 annually.

The opening day was led by the company's president, engineer Anthony Canaan, who offered the welcoming words, highlighted the institutional commitment to sustainability, and thanked the attendees for their presence. Following this, the director of operations, engineer Federico Franco, responsible for the structuring and execution of the environmental remediation plan, presented the technical details of the program, explaining the intervention phases and the long-term objectives of the model.

"Mining can and must be compatible with ecological regeneration. We are not only extracting responsibly; we are returning its environmental value to the land," Franco expressed during the activity.

The ceremony also included the blessing of Father Rogelio Cruz, who valued the effort as a positive sign of the role that the productive sector should assume in the protection of the environment: "The protection of the environment is a collective task. This contribution demonstrates that production can align with the care of the natural environment."

During the day, a technical induction was given on appropriate sowing practices in degraded soils, criteria for species selection, and subsequent care. The environmental team explained the application of specialized protocols for the restoration of mined soils, including leveling, irrigation, enrichment with nutrients, and periodic monitoring to ensure the survival of the species.

Canaan also underscored the strategic relevance of dry mining for national development. Along with cement and steel, aggregates are essential pillars of modern infrastructure, and their responsible extraction is an obligation for companies in the sector. In that sense, the importance of integrating environmental compensation measures, community participation, and technical training in all processes was highlighted.

As part of its annual plan, the company plans to plant 2,500 trees before February 2026, covering four mining areas with a total surface area of 64,000 square meters. The selected species combine ecological value, climate adaptability, and forest functionality, with the purpose of generating stable and resilient habitats.

Franco concluded by reaffirming the commitment and vision to build a modern, technical, and environmentally viable dry mining model. He pointed out that ecological balance and environmental sustainability are fundamental pillars in AGREGATEC.

In the activity, the main social actors of Villa González participated, who joined the symbolic planting. Among them were entrepreneurs, Mayor César Álvarez, the fire department, the Red Cross, neighborhood associations, and members of the board of directors of the iconic Las Lagunas Ecological Park, an environmental reference for the municipality, as well as those in charge of the municipal offices of Environment of Villa González and Villa Bisonó.
