The company TikTok announced this Wednesday an investment of about 200 billion reais (37.735 billion dollars or 32.258 billion euros) in the construction of infrastructure in Brazil, such as a data center and a wind farm. The announcement was made by the Director of Public Policies of the subsidiary of the Chinese-based company in Brazil, Mônica Guise, during a ceremony led by the country's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. "It will be TikTok's first 'data center' in Latin America and will require an investment of more than 200 billion reais," said Guise, who pointed out that an initiative of that amount "demonstrates the company's commitment to Brazil, one of the most dynamic digital markets in the world."

The data center will operate in the Pecém Complex, located in the state of Ceará (northeast), a seaport where other high-tech companies already operate and where the event was held. The TikTok representative did not give more details about the project, which has been discussed for more than a year, but assured that the data center will operate with "100% clean energy" which, in part, will be generated by a wind farm that the company itself will build in Ceará and that is part of the projected investment.
