Trump confirms agreement to create "working groups" to mediate between Ukraine and Russia

Washington.- U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Sunday that both Russia and Ukraine have agreed to negotiate through a "working group" composed of their main collaborators to finalize a peace agreement on the conflict in Ukraine "in the coming weeks."

Trump announced along with the Ukrainian leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he met at the Mar-a-Lago residence (Florida), that the American working group will include envoy Steve Witkoff, the president's son-in-law Jared Kuschner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan "Raizin" Caine. "Ukraine is going to provide very good people who were at today's lunch (in Mar-a-Lago)," added Trump, who in a previous call with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, obtained the Kremlin's acceptance of this mediation. Neither Zelensky nor Trump clarified whether they agree on advancing the possibility of creating a free trade zone in the Donbas or limiting themselves to guaranteeing a demilitarized zone, although they assured that today they advanced to resolve one of the most complex points of the peace agreement. According to the Kremlin in a statement, in the more than one-hour call this Sunday with Trump, Putin "agreed to the US proposal to resolve the situation in Ukraine through the establishment of working groups. One that will be in charge of the security dimension and another of economic affairs." Trump stressed that it is "important to highlight that the working group will also work with Russia, because if we do it among ourselves we are not going to solve the problem".
