Ecuador.- The Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito received 5.4 million passengers in 2025 through the operation of 12 commercial airlines, which connected the city with eight national and 14 international destinations, according to the municipality of the Ecuadorian capital, which reported this Friday. The first four months of the year were marked by the uncertainty inherent in the electoral process due to the presidential elections, which influenced a reduction in passengers, according to data from Quiport, the company that manages the airport infrastructure. However, starting in May, the airport recorded a sustained increase in the number of travelers, which allowed it to close 2025 with a slight increase compared to 2024, the year in which the air terminal received 5.3 million passengers. In the logistics field, the cargo volume grew from 364,000 metric tons in 2024 to 407,000 tons in 2025, which were transported by 16 specialized airlines. The export of flowers accounted for 93% of the total volume.

The Mayor's Office indicated that one of the milestones of 2025 was the start of operations in the airport expansion zone. With an investment of 74 million dollars by Quiport, the work added 17,600 square meters to the passenger terminal and 35,000 square meters to the platform. These works allowed for larger international arrival and departure areas, reconfiguration of the customs zone, and modernization of the baggage system. In addition, it increased the airport's capacity to handle from five to seven million passengers annually.
