On Tuesday, January 27, support and administrative staff of the public education system of the municipality of Jarabacoa held a peaceful protest demanding a salary increase and better working conditions, under the slogan "For labor dignity". The demonstration is taking place in different educational centers in Jarabacoa, where janitors and administrative staff are showing up dressed in black as a symbol of protest against the salaries that currently range between RD$10,000 and RD$13,000 monthly, amounts they consider insufficient given the workload and the cost of living. Participants denounce the historical invisibilization of their work and the accumulated fatigue due to insufficient salaries, and highlight the unity, firmness, and dignity of those who sustain public educational institutions day by day. “Without janitors or administrative staff, schools don't work”, they expressed during the day.
