Trump says he is "very close" to ending another war

The U.S. President, Donald Trump, has stated this Thursday that he is "very close" to ending the war in Sudan. "I am working hard to end that war. We are very close to achieving it. It will be number nine", declared the president. In the past, Trump had already pledged to end the conflict in Sudan. The president assured in November of last year that he will work with his partners in the Middle East to end the "atrocities" that are currently occurring in that country and stabilize it.

The civil war in Sudan erupted in 2023 after the fragile ruling coalition between the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces collapsed. The UN estimates that the conflict, characterized by severe brutality, has already left more than 20,000 dead and 14 million displaced, while other independent investigations estimate that the real death toll could reach 150,000.
  • Since the beginning of his term in January 2025, Trump has on several occasions attributed to himself the merit of having ended eight conflicts around the world: those that pitted Cambodia and Thailand; Kosovo* and Serbia; Congo and Rwanda; Pakistan and India; Israel and Iran; Egypt and Ethiopia; Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Israel and Hamas.
