A statement appears about Epstein's death dated one day before he was found dead

A statement about the death of Jeffrey Epstein has appeared in the files recently published by the United States Department of Justice, but it includes a date that seems to precede the moment when the sex offender was officially found dead inside his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. The statement, issued by the Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and dated Friday, August 9, 2019, states that the magnate had already been found unconscious and declared dead. However, prison records and official reports show that Epstein was not found unconscious until the morning of August 10, when a prison official bringing him breakfast found him in his cell, as highlighted by the Daily Mail.

What does the statement say?
Thus, the then-Manhattan federal prosecutor, Geoffrey S. Berman, stated in the August 9th statement: "This morning, the Manhattan Correctional Center has confirmed that Jeffrey Epstein, accused by this Prosecutor's Office of sex trafficking of minors, was found unconscious in his cell and declared dead shortly thereafter."

Furthermore, he described the events as "disturbing", pointing out that the authorities are "very aware that they may pose a further obstacle to the numerous victims of Epstein being able to obtain justice in the courts." "To those brave young women who have already stepped forward and to the many others who have not yet done so, allow me to reiterate that we remain committed to defending them with our investigation of the facts alleged in the accusation," he concluded. Epstein was found dead on August 10, 2019, in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, where he was awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors.
Last July, Axios reported that the FBI and the Department of Justice concluded that there is no evidence that he was murdered. Investigators found "no incriminating list of clients" of the financier, "no credible evidence [...] that Epstein blackmailed prominent people" and no "evidence that could justify an investigation against non-indicted third parties," the media outlet noted, citing the official statement from the authorities.
